The 50:50 split of market share is about to go 1/3 each.Less expensive and more efficient on paper. That's great. As the A380, 787, and nearly every major other program have shown, it's not particularly easy to build a truly new plane. The Chinese will reverse engineer (read: copy) a 737 and A320 and sell it for 20% less. The efficiency gains could come from new engines, but they still face a steep curve. Do you really believe that Comac, who have never built anything that flies, can build an airplane their first try that is cheaper & more efficient? Cheaper is one thing, better is another.Also, don't forget that the purchase price is only one small portion of the total ownership cost. Maintenance & repair are big factors. Reliability is vital. After-sale service is vital. Replacing a fleet of planes costs billions of dollars, and most of the airlines that have fleets of A320s and 737s will not dump them all until the Comac plane is proven reliable and cost effective for 10+ years. So, yes, the 50/50 Chinese market will be split up different, but nobody else is flying them until they have a track record. Rate this comment: 0 0
